The Founder
Francesca Ray is the founder and Creative Director of RICO Magazine. A BA Modern Languages graduate from the University of Essex, she created RICO as a space where people from all backgrounds can see a part of themselves reflected within luxury media, while also discovering and learning about others.
In an increasingly media-driven world, representation often remains surface-level. After hearing friends speak about how their countries may be represented in mainstream media, yet the diversity of cultures, traditions, and identities within those countries remain unseen, Francesca was inspired to create a platform that would elevate those voices and open audiences up to the richness of the communities living around them.
RICO was born from a desire to challenge traditional ideas of luxury and representation within media. Rather than presenting luxury as something tied solely to wealth, exclusivity, or a singular beauty standard, RICO celebrates culture itself as something inherently valuable, expressive, and deserving of visibility.
Inspired by the richness of communities around the world, Francesca created RICO as a platform for culturally grounded storytelling — bringing together writers, photographers, and creatives to explore the traditions, celebrations, fashion, and identities that shape people globally.
With a focus on depth, emotion, and global connection, RICO aims to create editorial work that feels both visually striking and deeply human.
As the magazine continues to grow, the vision for RICO is to become an international creative platform that amplifies underrepresented perspectives and redefines what modern luxury media can look like.
